the rooms with a balcony as well as bath, incredibly helpful and responsive staff at the reception desk. varied selection for breakfast with fresh pastries and hard burnt bacon, as example. stunning and magnificent location in varese, so close to town of varese and local restaurants and varese lake.

The opulance of the hotel, professional staff, breakfast, unfortunately it rained non stop and I could not enjoy the lovely gardens.
Interent access, much to expensive, but no fault of the hotel as it was run by an outside company.

The breakfast room was poorly managed and tables were not cleared and tidy with one morning being out of croissants;there was an awful smell in the bathroom that they tried to cover with a plug in odour not sure waht it was but remained on clothes and face flannels even when we got back home

It's a grand place. The structure is elegant and has great potential. It's dining room was delicious.
It's a tired structure that has great potential. The staff didn't measure up to the standards you would perceive for the facility. The food was delicious, but not enough servers to take care of the customers. The pool facility was lacking amenities.

The Double Room with Lake View was spacious and really comfortable. The bed was cozy, and the views of Lake Varese were fine, especially at sunset. The decor had that charming old-world vibe. Just a couple of downsides, the bathroom shower was a bit small, and I would have liked a kettle in the room.

It is an old palace and has its charm. The cleaners must be praised for their honesty when we returned one day to find my wife's purse on the bedside table with all the money etc intact. All the staff were courteous and helpful. I would like to especially mention the genleman at the reception for guiding us to the factory outlets centre in Mendrisio. Also the same gentleman quite happily searched for and found us a British adapter for our mobile charger. In all our experience at the hotel was good.
We were rather disappointed that the only English laguage channel on the TV was CNBC, the rest were Italian language. We would have preferred a few more English language channels. The choice of hot breakfast was quite inadequate, since the breakfast was described as American. Every day they had only scrambled eggs and rashers. They could add a few more hot items to make it reasonable. The choice in cold breakfast items was OK. There was no facility in the room for making tea/coffee. The coffee maker in the corridor was not working for the first few days and was not convenient.
